Remington College Offers No-Cost GED Prep Program and GED Testing

Free GED help part of Remington College effort to open the door to educational and career opportunities

HEATHROW, Fla.--()--Remington College is launching a new effort to help make college a reality for people who did not graduate from high school. The non-profit career college is now offering Remington College GED Exam Prep Course for people who want to obtain their GED.

The prep course will be offered free of charge at most Remington College campuses. The program will be open to those who meet the qualifications and requirements for participation.

Remington College has a goal of helping 1,000 people become college-ready in 2012. Providing GED prep classes and paying the GED test fees for those who meet the requirementsi will increase access for students who might have trouble paying the cost of training and testing. In addition to the cost savings, the program will provide students the support and encouragement that they need to finish the program and get their GED.

“Achieving a GED opens so many doors for people,” said Jack Forrest, Remington College President and CEO. “Having a GED will make it possible to qualify for Federal Student Aid. It could be their pathway to college, a career in the military, the ability to earn more money through a promotion or a better job, a feeling of accomplishment and improved self-worth.”

There are two key factors to take into account as to why a GED is necessary.

  • Unemployment for those without their GED is 45% higher than for those who have their high school diploma or GED, 15.6% versus 10.7%.ii
  • People with their GED on average earn more money in their lifetime than people without one.iii

Remington College believes that a well-educated workforce contributes to the economic and social vibrancy of the diverse communities in which its students, faculty, and staff live and this program is an extension of its core mission intended to lower unemployment and improve standards of living in the communities that we serve.
