Research and Markets: Telecoms and Technology Report Nigeria

DUBLIN--()--Dublin - Research and Markets (http://www.researchandmarkets.com/research/hnfgwx/telecoms_and_techn) has announced the addition of the "Telecoms and Technology Report Nigeria" report to their offering.

(Forecast closing date: March 26th 2012)

Driven by a rapid expansion in mobile-phone subscriptions, Nigeria is among the fastest-growing telecommunications markets in the world. In 2009 the country overtook South Africa to become the largest mobile-phone market in Sub-Saharan Africa. Nevertheless, the telecommunications sector as a whole accounts for only around 5.6% of the country's GDP, compared with 10% for South Africa.

The number of mobile-phone subscriptions increased from fewer than 1m in 2001 to 94.4m by end-2011. However, the fixed-line market has been hampered by underinvestment in the infrastructure and operations of Nitel, the former state telecoms monopoly, and there were only 833,000 active fixed lines at end-2011.
