TORONTO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--No matter how old or young, there are moments in life when you just need mom. In fact, according to a recent survey, moms are the number one family member Canadians turn to as a source of comfort when facing a personal crisis*. In addition, moms are most likely to look forward to a simple “thank you” as a reward from their children**.
This Mother’s Day, Procter & Gamble (P&G) invites Canadians coast to coast to join London 2012 Olympic Games hopeful and three-time medallist (kayak) Adam van Koeverden and say thank you to their moms via the “Thank You, Mom” video creator on Facebook www.facebook.com/PGeverydayCanada.
“My mom was the reason I got into kayaking in the first place. From the early morning drives to practice when I was young, to being there at all my big races since then, she’s been my ultimate supporter and fan over the years,” says van Koeverden. “Words cannot describe how much I appreciate all that support, but I’ll be saying thank you on Mother’s Day, and I hope others do the same!”
When surveyed, the vast majority of Canadians (90 per cent) feel it is important for parents to attend milestone events in their children's lives.* With the “Thank You, Mom” video creator, Canadians can create a customized video and share those moments when mom’s presence meant the most – be it a wedding day, graduation or a high-level competition.
“Waking up early for practice, doing the weekly laundry of team uniforms, spending hours driving to competitions, these are the little things that moms do to help their children achieve their dreams,” says David Grisim, Associate Marketing Director, Procter & Gamble Canada. “On this Mother’s Day, the video creator is a small means for Canadians to say thank you to mom for all the big things she does.”
P&G is in the business of helping moms, the ones who helped get our athletes where they are today. The ‘Proud sponsor of Moms’ campaign will help all moms of the Canadian Olympic and Paralympic Teams to attend the London 2012 Olympic Games, to see their children compete. This year, P&G is giving $500,000 to help all moms of Olympians travel to London. For many of these moms, it’ll be the first time they attend the Olympic Games with their child, a dream some never thought possible. Once in London, moms, athletes and families will be able to find a ‘home away from home’ at the Canada Olympic House on-site, and enjoy amenities like beauty treatments and laundry services.
In addition, P&G’s brands are working to support athletes and national teams around the world. The Company has partnered with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) for the next ten years, joining P&G’s purpose to touch and improve everyday life in small but meaningful ways, with the IOC’s purpose to improve life through sport.

** For the study, a national sample of Canadian families was randomly selected from TNS Canada’s Internet research panel and invited to complete an online survey. Qualifiers were screened into the study on the basis of having a child in the home under the age of 18 years. In total, 750 completions were achieved. Quotas were put in place in order to ensure a minimum number of completes in each of the four key regions (Atlantic, Quebec, Ontario and West).
