Cozen O’Connor Continues Growth of Intellectual Property Group in Washington, D.C., with Addition of IP Attorney Louis M. Heidelberger

WASHINGTON--()--Continuing the expansion of its intellectual property practice, Cozen O’Connor announced that former Connolly Bove Lodge & Hutz Partner Louis M. Heidelberger joined the firm’s IP group as a member in the Washington, D.C., office. The announcement comes on the heels of Cozen O’Connor’s recent hiring of nine IP attorneys from Duane Morris, including seven members; five of those also in the Washington, D.C., office.

With more than 35 years of experience, Heidelberger represents clients from Fortune 50 to emerging companies in a variety of areas including: intellectual property counseling, due diligence, licensing, transactions, litigation, opposition and cancellation proceedings, reissue and reexaminations, and domain name and anti-cybersquatting matters. He has assisted companies in a wide array of intellectual property matters involving the design, evaluation and management of intellectual property estates.

Heidelberger has extensive experience in handling matters involving telecommunications; wired and wireless communications; media and content distribution; software and software systems; nanotechnology; bio-informatics; financial services; medical, biotechnology and pharmaceuticals; healthcare; chemicals and advanced materials; pulp, paper and printing; power generation; waste water systems; luxury goods; food, diet and nutraceuticals; and fashion. He often acts as general counsel to his mid-market and emerging clients.

“Louis is a distinguished patent and trademark litigator whose expertise in intellectual property transactional and prosecution work will be a great addition to our growing intellectual property group,” said Cozen O’Connor Chief Executive Officer Tad Decker.

“Cozen O’Connor not only boasts a full-service patent group across all technologies, but is a general practice law firm having all of the key legal disciplines that are essential to my practice,” said Heidelberger. “I am thrilled to have joined the firm and its intellectual property group during this exciting time of growth.”

Led by chair Camille Miller, Cozen O’Connor’s intellectual property group added nine intellectual property attorneys earlier this month from Duane Morris, and in June added 19 New York-based intellectual property attorneys from the New York based boutique Cohen Pontani Lieberman & Pavane. The IP group now boasts 45 attorneys practicing out of New York, Philadelphia, Washington, D.C., Chicago, and Atlanta. “We are now one of the largest IP practices in the country for generic pharmaceutical patent litigation,” said Miller.

Louis is a graduate of Temple University James E. Beasley School of Law (J.D., 1975) and Drexel University (B.S., 1971), where he majored in metallurgical engineering.

Established in 1970 and ranked among the 100 largest law firms in the United States, Cozen O’Connor has 575 attorneys who help clients manage risk and make better business decisions. The firm counsels clients on their most sophisticated legal matters in all areas of the law, including litigation, corporate, and regulatory law. Representing a broad array of leading global corporations and ambitious middle market companies, Cozen O’Connor serves its clients’ needs through 21 offices across two continents.
