SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--OpenStack Design Summit & Conference—Nexenta® Systems, the world leader in OpenStorage solutions, today made four significant announcements at the OpenStack conference, at which it is attending and presenting. These announcements include:
- Nexenta has increased its contributions to OpenStack to support openness in cloud management.
- The company today released NexentaStor Cloud Archive Plug-in, which delivers seamless backup and restore capabilities for Nexenta customers to and from the most popular cloud storage providers, including OpenStack-based clouds.
- Nexenta announced a technology preview of storage-as-a-service software that demonstrates the first integration of ZFS-based storage and object storage. It is available at cloudstorage.nexenta.com.
- Finally, the company has delivered to the OpenStack community additions to the Swift interfaces, making them even more compatible with Amazon’s S3.
“We are committed to OpenStack and its community, and to open approaches to cloud computing more generally,” said Nexenta CEO Evan Powell. “The Nexenta Cloud Archive Plug-in, along with our contributions to the Nova Project, and with our technology trial of Object Storage for OpenStack’s Project Swift (at http://cloudstorage.nexenta.com), are part of our overall strategy of producing our ZFS-based storage software to improve storage for the cloud and cloud storage services.”
Nexenta has contributed substantially to, and invested in, the OpenStack Community, as evidenced by the NexentaStor volume driver for OpenStack, which provides the best file system support for users of Project Nova, the OpenStack virtual server management effort. For more information on Nexenta’s OpenStack work, see http://www.nexenta.com/openstack.
With the Nexenta Cloud Archive Plug-in, the thousands of organizations using NexentaStor-powered storage can move to a hybrid cloud architecture for storage with ease, relying on the industry’s leading OpenStorage solution for on-premise primary storage, along with proven cloud providers for backup, restore, and business continuity. First and foremost, this plug-in allows for backup and restore to any cloud-based service, including cloud storage services from Amazon, Google and Rackspace. One unique feature is that data archived to any of these clouds can be retrieved to any NexentaStor deployment, not just to the deployment that initially wrote the data to the cloud. The Cloud Archive Plug-in is available today at http://nexenta.com/store for $899, for a limited time.
Nexenta has long been a favored option for OpenStack storage under Project Nova. Nexenta has participated in a technology trial of an Object Storage Service based on OpenStack’s Project Swift. This trial, which is running on the award-winning NexentaStor product, can be seen at cloudstorage.nexenta.com. Visitors can request credentials and try out the service for a limited time. The trial will be available through mid-May 2012.
