LONDON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Frontier Silicon, the leading supplier of digital radio and internet audio solutions announces that its sales volume of DAB/DAB+ modules and chipsets set a new record for the company in Q1 2012. Sales of these products have leapt forward by almost 20% compared to the same period in 2011.
The market for DAB/DAB+ radios is increasing as various markets around the world move to digitize their radio services. Especially important was the major launch of DAB/DAB+ services in Germany during 2011, where commercial and public service broadcasters cooperated successfully in bringing a number of exciting new digital radio stations onto the air across the country. DAB+ services were also successfully launched in Hong Kong during 2011.
Germany now joins the UK, one of the other major European economies, as a significant market opportunity for DAB/DAB+ products.
Other markets for DAB/DAB+ such as Australia continue to show promising trends for digital radio. Commercial Radio Australia recently reported that digital radio listening had increased to 1.2 million people in an average week, which represents an increase of 400,000 listeners over the last 12 months. These figures have outperformed original forecasts and have prompted the PwC to update their Forecast for Digital Radio Adoption report, which now predicts DAB+ digital radio to penetration 16% of households by December 2013 and 18% by 2014.
“As new and influential markets such as Germany open up for DAB/DAB+ products our customers are accelerating their demand for our modules and chipsets.” said Prem Rajalingham, VP Worldwide Sales and Support for Frontier Silicon, “as a long term supplier of technology for digital radio our innovations continue to ensure that our customers are able to drive the DAB/DAB+ market forwards.”
