“Big Lebowski,” “Monty Python and the Holy Grail,” “Bridesmaids” Among Yahoo! Movies’ List of Top 100 Comedy Films

New list features comedic favorites over the decades and includes movies not intentionally created as comedies

SANTA MONICA, Calif.--()--Yahoo! Movies (http://movies.yahoo.com), one of the leading movies websites, recently released the fourth edition of the site’s annual movie lists, “100 Movies to See Before You Die,” with focus on the best comedy movies of all time. The newly released list showcases films, directors and acting talent from all eras, resulting in a balanced list of iconic and modern comedies from 1926 to 2012. The “100 Funniest Movies to See Before You Die” list, compiled by Yahoo! Movies’ team of editors and experts and presented alphabetically is available at: http://movies.yahoo.com/100-movies-to-see-before-you-die/100-funniest-movies

The picks for this year incorporate a number of films that may have not been intended to be funny, but earned a comedic reputation from audiences and our panel of experts. A highlight from the list, “Pulp Fiction,” is categorized as a thriller, but delivers countless moments of laughter. Stemming from this idea, the Yahoo! Movies’ pop culture experts included a bonus list for the “Most Unintentionally Funny Movies,” with feature films including “Showgirls,” “The Wicker Man,” and “Reefer Madness,” to name a few.

“After some heated debates, a shouting match or two and at least one pie fight, the staff at Yahoo! Movies is proud to present the ultimate list of the funniest movies of all time,” said Sean Phillips, head of Yahoo! Movies. “The success of the ‘100 Movies to See Before You Die’ franchise on Yahoo! Movies has been tremendous and we’re excited to see the fans’ reactions to the comedy edition.”

Ranging from iconic comedic films the “Big Lebowski,” “Monty Python and the Holy Grail,” “Dazed and Confused,” to more modern day highlights such as “Bridesmaids,” “The Hangover,” and “Borat,” the list includes a wide range of variety for each individual’s preference in comedy.

Bill Murray led the way as the funniest actor appearing in five films from the list, while Heather Graham was featured in three. Harold Ramis, John Landis, Mel Brooks, and Rob Reiner made the strongest showing as directors with three films from each making the cut.
