RICHMOND, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Henrico-based Allianz Global Assistance USA, a global travel insurance and assistance company, announced today that it has awarded scholarships to six area high school students to travel and study abroad. Recipients of Allianz’s annual ScholarTrips scholarships will receive $2500 each to attend an international study abroad program of their choosing. Beth Godlin, Allianz Global Assistance USA president and CEO, will present awards to the 2012 ScholarTrips recipients at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, April 4 at the company’s headquarters (2805 N. Parham Rd.).
“Study abroad programs help students learn to be global thinkers and give them valuable insights into cultures they might not encounter otherwise,” Godlin said. “We recognize that the cost of these programs can often be a barrier, and it is a privilege to support our area’s young people through ScholarTrips.”
The 2012 ScholarTrips recipients are:
- Jae Brown, a junior at Henrico High School. He will study abroad in Australia.
- McKenzie Licata, a sophomore at St. Catherine’s School, who will attend a study abroad program in Haiti.
- Savannah Simmons, a sophomore from Matoaca High School, who will travel to Italy, Germany and Prague.
- Lyndsey Weeks, a junior at Powhatan High, who plans to travel to England, Germany and France.
- Eileen Wang, who plans to travel to France after graduating from Maggie Walker Governor’s School.
- Benjamin Weitz, a sophomore in the French Immersion program at J.R. Tucker High School, who will attend a study abroad program in France.

Allianz Global Assistance USA selects ScholarTrips recipients based on an application process, which includes an essay portion that requires candidates to discuss their motivation to study abroad and what they expect to learn.
