Oracle Performance Equal on Virtual Servers as on Physical According to New Research from Confio Software

BOULDER, Colo.--()--Today Confio Software, the makers of the award-wining Ignite suite of database performance tools, revealed the results of an in-depth, independent study regarding the performance of Oracle databases on VMware virtual servers. The results of the analysis show Oracle performance was essentially unchanged when moving from a physical to a VMware server configuration.

The tested performance was illustrated using Confio IgniteVM, a software tool used by database administrators (DBAs) to ensure database performance and availability on VMware. Test analysis showed no loss of transaction throughput, with VMware actually running slightly faster in some cases. This performance testing in conjunction with the IgniteVM monitoring results confirm that Oracle can be run on VMware without compromising performance or availability.

“We are seeing rapid adoption of VMware for Oracle hosting throughout our installed base,” said Don Bergal, chief marketing officer for Confio. “With IgniteVM specifically focused on making these implementations successful, our customers are achieving their VMware migration objectives. This study backs up the findings that with proper management, DBAs can gain the flexibility cost benefits of VMware and still maintain performance.”

The analysis conducted was possible using IgniteVM exclusively, because other available database tools have visibility only to the virtual server statistics, while IgniteVM exposes actual physical server resources available to the database. IgniteVM gives an accurate picture of how the database is really performing in the virtual machine, physical server, and storage layers.

About Ignite Performance Analysis Software

Ignite for Oracle, SQL Server, DB2, Sybase and VMware is the one monitoring solution that identifies, analyzes and resolves all of the performance problems affecting applications end users. Unlike other software, Ignite doesn’t just show health metrics, it applies response-time analysis to correlate the most important performance data to build a complete picture of the database performance for the DBA, Developer and DBA manager.

IgniteVM is unique as the only database performance solution that provides DBAs with complete visibility of all the server layers, from virtual machine through physical storage, when their database runs on VMware.
