Skyscanner: Balmy weather sees Brits go Barmy for Britain this Easter

EDINBURGH, Scotland--()--The unseasonably warm weather is having a positive effect on domestic tourism over the Easter holidays, with Skyscanner, Europe’s leading travel search site, witnessing a massive 72% rise in flight searches to and from regional airports across Britain.

The continuing heat wave, which may see the South East reach record temperatures today, will lead to millions of Brits holidaying at home over the Easter period.

However, with Easter holidays kicking off this Friday, not everyone is holidaying within the UK; Heathrow is expecting to handle 3.4m passengers over the Easter period and Skyscanner has seen a 42% year on year increase in flight searches to sunny destinations across Europe with Spain proving the most popular (up 50%). Short haul destinations closer to home are proving the most popular foreign holiday spots this Easter, with Italy and France up 50% and 96% respectively.

Sam Baldwin, Travel Editor at Skyscanner said, “This is great news for Britain and will no doubt provide a welcome boost to our tourism industry. We hope this trend continues and many more people get their much-deserved summer holiday this year.”
