WASHINGTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--ATIS, the leading technical planning and standards development organization for the information, entertainment and communications industry, today announced that Fred Kemmerer, CTO of GENBAND, has been elected by the ATIS board as chair of the ATIS Technology and Operations (TOPS) Council. The TOPS Council, a standing committee of the ATIS board of directors, is the organization’s foremost vehicle for actively addressing the ICT industry’s technical, operational and business priorities spanning the entire ecosystem—from end-user devices through network and application services. In its work the TOPS Council identifies the industry’s most pressing technical and operational priorities, and coordinates technology development and standardization efforts to produce interoperable, implementable, end-to-end solutions.
“GENBAND views ATIS as a vital and leading forum where the telecommunications industry comes together to solve some of its most critical issues and support industry standards,” said Fred Kemmerer. “I am delighted to be elected Chair of the TOPS Council. I look forward to leading TOPS’ solutions-driven initiatives which are addressing top industry concerns, most recently, in the areas of unifying client architecture, cyber-security, PSTN transition and M2M communications.”
Kemmerer is an experienced telecommunications executive with a broad background in a variety of communications technologies, which include Wireless, IP and Multiservice Switching and Routing, Next Generation Core Networks, and Broadband Access. As GENBAND’s CTO since 2008, he is responsible for setting the company’s strategic technical direction. Prior to GENBAND, Kemmerer held a broad range of positions at Lucent and then Alcatel-Lucent.
“ATIS is pleased to welcome Fred Kemmerer to the TOPS Council’s leadership position,” said Susan M. Miller ATIS president and CEO. “As a long-standing ATIS board member, Fred is well-positioned to lead TOPS’ work in identifying and solving the ICT ecosystem’s most formidable challenges. His combination of strategic vision, in-depth knowledge and focus will ensure ATIS’ ongoing leadership in delivering the industry timely market-focused solutions.”
