HANGZHOU, China & MELBOURNE, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Miaxis Biometrics Co. LTD, a leading provider of biometric products, and AuthenTec (NASDAQ: AUTH), a leading provider of mobile and network security, announced today that they have completed first volume shipments of Miaxis’ new products integrating AuthenTec’s fingerprint sensors to the Bank of China and other major Chinese banks. Tens of thousands of Miaxis Bank ID Terminals integrating AuthenTec TCS2 TouchChip fingerprint sensors are being deployed throughout China within branch offices of major Chinese banks to reduce teller fraud.
Miaxis is one of China’s leading providers of bank teller ID management systems. Miaxis’ fingerprint sensor-equipped ID systems allow banks to guard against bank teller fraud by providing a biometric audit trail of financial transactions. The key component in Miaxis’ teller ID management system is the fingerprint sensor that identifies each bank teller by their unique fingerprint pattern. Under terms of a purchasing agreement between Miaxis and AuthenTec executed in 2011, AuthenTec will provide high volumes of TouchChip sensor products to Miaxis for use in fingerprint ID systems including its USB readers, as well as other Miaxis products designed to serve the growing market in China for banking and government programs requiring fingerprint biometrics.
“AuthenTec has been a longtime supplier of fingerprint sensors to Miaxis over our 12-year history, and we are pleased to team with them on innovative fingerprint security solutions for the Chinese banking market,” said Jerry Li, Miaxis Chairman and CEO. “AuthenTec has earned its reputation as a leading provider of silicon-based fingerprint sensors and we look forward to close collaboration on new banking ID systems that take full advantage of the biometric performance and fingerprint imaging accuracy of their TouchChip sensors.”
“Miaxis has been a strong customer and partner, and we are eager to support their aggressive plans to deploy additional banking ID terminals in China to leading banks including the Bank of China,” said Alan Kramer, Vice President of the Government and Access Control Business at AuthenTec. “China represents a significant market opportunity for our Government-grade sensor products and our partnership with Miaxis has helped us to solidify our position in this important market. Over the years we have worked with them, Miaxis has expanded their technical capabilities, and broadened their product offering, and we are delighted to see the success of our joint development efforts being recognized through these large security deployments in the Chinese banking sector.”
