MoneyGram Announces Ambassador Antonio Garza to Stand for Election as an Independent Candidate to the Board of Directors at Annual Meeting

Garza Adds Extensive Knowledge of Key Remittance Markets

DALLAS--()--MoneyGram International (NYSE:MGI), a leading global money payment company, today announced that Ambassador Antonio Garza (Ret.) will stand for election to the MoneyGram Board of Directors at the company’s April 17, 2012 annual meeting, along with all current directors. Once elected, this will bring the number of directors up to 10, five of whom will be independent.

His extensive knowledge of the Latin American markets will be a tremendous resource for our company.”

Ambassador Antonio Garza was the U.S. Ambassador to Mexico from 2002 to 2009. He is currently an attorney in the Mexico City office of White & Case LLP, an international law firm, where he has worked since 2010. He has also served as chairman of ViaNovo Ventures, the cross-border unit of a management consulting firm, since 2009. Ambassador Garza was elected to the Texas Railroad Commission in 1998 and served as its Chairman from 1999 until 2002. He is a former partner at Bracewell & Patterson (now Bracewell & Giuliani) and previously served as Secretary of State of the State of Texas and Senior Policy Advisor to the Governor of the State of Texas from 1994 to 1997.

Ambassador Garza currently serves as a director of Basic Energy Services, Inc., a well site service company to oil and gas companies, and to Kansas City Southern, a railroad. He also serves on the Board of Trustees of Southern Methodist University, the Development Board of the University of Texas at Austin, and is on the Dean’s Advisory Committee at the Harvard School of Public Health.
