NORWALK, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Viridian Energy, a leading provider of affordable, green retail energy, today announced the first recipient of its Recognized Green Community award as the City of Garfield, New Jersey for their success in greening their community and saving taxpayer dollars through energy choice. Beginning in July 2010, the city council made a decision to enroll their municipal buildings with Viridian Energy service, leading to 605,819 pounds of avoided carbon emissions, and $94,000 saved over a period between July 2010 and December 2011.
This is the equivalent of saving 30,807 gallons of gasoline, or taking 53.9 cars off the road annually, and Viridian is pleased to recognize the city council, especially Mayor Frank Calandriello, for these efforts.
