SANTA CLARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Strata Conference 2012 – Hortonworks, a leading commercial vendor promoting the development and support of Apache Hadoop, today announced a strategic partnership with Talend, a global open source software leader, to bring the world’s most popular open source data integration platform to the Apache Hadoop community. Through the partnership, Talend’s Apache-licensed big data integration solution, Talend Open Studio for Big Data, will be bundled as part of Hortonworks Data Platform, simplifying the movement of data between Apache Hadoop and enterprise data systems and accelerating the adoption of Apache Hadoop.
Based on Talend’s award-winning open source integration technology, Talend Open Studio for Big Data is a powerful and versatile open source solution for big data integration that natively supports Apache Hadoop, including connectors for Hadoop Distributed File System (HDFS), HBase, Pig, Sqoop and Hive. By leveraging Apache Hadoop’s MapReduce architecture for highly distributed data processing, Talend Open Studio for Big Data generates native Hadoop code and runs data transformations directly inside Hadoop for maximum scalability. Its easy-to-use graphical development environment dramatically improves the efficiency of data integration job design.
“Our strategic partnership with Hortonworks greatly simplifies the process of integrating Apache Hadoop into existing data architectures so that organizations can maximize the value of data flowing throughout their organizations,” said Bertrand Diard, CEO and co-founder of Talend. “Talend’s big data solutions greatly simplify the process of importing and exporting data into Apache Hadoop, as well as processing this data inside Hadoop. This enterprise open source data integration solution natively supports Hadoop’s distributed computing architecture for high-performance and highly-scalable big data integration.”
Hortonworks Data Platform (HDP), powered by Apache Hadoop, is a massively scalable, 100 percent open source platform for storing, processing and analyzing large volumes of data. HDP includes the most popular and essential Apache Hadoop projects including HDFS, MapReduce, HCatalog, Pig, Hive, HBase and Zookeeper. Talend Open Studio for Big Data will be bundled with both previously announced versions of Hortonworks Data Platform. HDP v1 leverages the current stable production release of Apache Hadoop (version 1.0), while HDP v2 includes the next-generation MapReduce architecture along with important advancements in scalability, performance, data integrity and high availability.
“By bundling Talend Open Studio for Big Data into the Hortonworks Data Platform, we are streamlining the process of moving data in and out of Hadoop,” said Eric Baldeschwieler, CTO and co-founder of Hortonworks. “Integrating enterprise data into Hadoop will empower organizations with more control over untapped information assets, driving more intelligent decisions. This strategic partnership with Talend will enable Apache Hadoop to become the technology that will drive the next-generation enterprise data platform and achieve our vision of processing half of the world’s data within the next several years.”
