Breen Adds FLGR (Fuel Lean Gas Reburn) Technology to Acid Gas Management Solution Set

CARNEGIE, Pa.--()--Breen Energy Solutions has completed an exclusive licensing agreement for FLGR (Fuel Lean Gas Reburn) Technology with Chicago, Ill based Gas Technology Institute (GTI). This license significantly adds to Breen’s portfolio of technology solutions for acid gas management in electric generation plants. The FLGR process injects natural gas above the main combustion zone of the furnace to reduce much of the NOx to harmless nitrogen.

“The FLGR Technology is a great option for certain types of electric generation facilities,” said Cal Lockert, Breen Vice President of Business Development. “We believe this technology can have a positive impact toward keeping plants operating profitably while meeting proposed new emissions standards.”

What sets FLGR apart from conventional gas reburn systems is that the natural gas is injected in a manner that optimizes the furnace's stoichiometry on a very localized basis. FLGR creates a matrix of fuel-rich eddies while maintaining overall fuel-lean flue gas conditions. Breen will be presenting an overview of the process at the upcoming Reinhold NOx conference and has a demonstration event in the planning stages.

Breen’s Acid Gas Management solution set includes Acid Gas Measurement instrumentation, DSI (Dry Sorbent Injection) demonstrations and operations as well as Cross-State Air Pollution Rule (CSAPR) compliance solutions including Fuel Lean Gas Reburn for NOx and SOx reduction. Breen is working with dozens of coal-fired generators to maximize efficiency and reduce acid management concerns.

About Breen Energy Solutions, LLC (BES)

BES provides acid gas management solutions to the Fossil Fuel Power Generation Industry. The company formed in 2002 with the mission to develop and apply new ideas and technologies to help utilities manage their emissions and Balance-Of-Plant impacts resulting from emissions control technologies.

The DSI Division conducts Dry Sorbent Injection demonstrations for SO3 mitigation using Lime, Trona and other dry sorbents. BES also performs wet sorbent injection using Magnesium Oxide for slag control and SO3 mitigation.

BES commercialized several technologies in the Acid Gas Management field including the AbSensor – SO3/AbS measurement system, the Breen Online Air Heater Model and the Dynamic Speed Controlled (DySC) Air Heater Sootblowing technology.
