EL SEGUNDO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Celebrities, NFL athletes and thousands of spectators will converge on more than one million pounds of freshly poured sand at Victory Field in Indianapolis to compete in DIRECTV’s Sixth Annual Celebrity Beach Bowl, presented by SPIKE TV, on Saturday, Feb. 4.
The event, which has grown over the years to become one of the most anticipated events of Super Bowl weekend, is free and open to the public. The game itself features Hollywood’s brightest stars competing against NFL greats in a no-holds-barred flag football game in front of thousands of fervent fans. The action will take place in a specially constructed stadium complete with a sand-filled football field and concert stage. Immediately following the game and trophy presentation the crowd will fill the beach for a concert, presented by Palladia HD, featuring The Fray performing songs from their upcoming album Scars and Stories.
Celebrities scheduled to take the field include Nina Dobrev (Vampire Diaries), Chace Crawford (Gossip Girl), Maria Menounos (EXTRA), Joe Manganiello (True Blood), Jordin Sparks (American Idol), Matt Bomer (White Collar), Kate Upton (Sports Illustrated model), Mehcad Brooks (Necessary Roughness), Erin Andrews (ESPN Broadcaster/Good Morning America Correspondent), Jesse Williams (Grey’s Anatomy), Chrissy Teigen (Sports Illustrated model), David Arquette (Scream 4), Candice Accola (Vampire Diaries), AJ Calloway (EXTRA), Christina McClarty (Entertainment Tonight), Brian Kilmeade (Fox and Friends), Nick DiPaulo and Artie Lange (The Nick and Artie Show) and Brandon Molale (Dodgeball).
Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton will coach Team SPIKE TV and Matthew Stafford of the Detroit Lions will coach Team Palladia HD. Hall of Famers Joe Montana and Warren Moon will quarterback their respective teams. Other NFL greats playing in the game include Deion Sanders, Terrell Owens, Merril Hoge, Desmond Howard, Eddie George and Barry Sanders.
The pre-game show hosted by Dan Patrick and Kevin Frazier, presented by SHOWTIME ®, begins at 1 p.m. At 2 p.m. celebrities and athletes will take the field for the afternoon’s main event, which will be played over two 20-minute halves. The action will be called by Patrick and sideline reporter Tony Siragusa.
Later that night, the space will be transformed into an upscale nightclub for the DIRECTV Super Saturday Night hosted by Mark Cuban's HDNet and Peyton Manning featuring a musical performance by Katy Perry and a special appearance by guest DJ Connor Cruise. The exclusive, invite only event will begin at 9:30 p.m. EST.
