NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Davis Polk & Wardwell LLP today announced that Greg D. Andres, a federal prosecutor and senior official with the U.S. Department of Justice, will rejoin the firm in New York. Mr. Andres will join Davis Polk’s Litigation Department, where he will work with the firm’s top-ranked White Collar Criminal Defense Group and represent clients in both civil and criminal trials.
Mr. Andres, 44, has been a federal prosecutor since 1999. Most recently, he served as a Deputy Assistant Attorney General in the Criminal Division of the Department of Justice, where his wide-ranging responsibilities included supervision of the Fraud and Appellate Sections. Among other duties, Mr. Andres was involved in policy and enforcement issues relating to both health care fraud and the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA). His high-profile trials include the prosecution of ex-Credit Suisse broker Eric Butler, who was convicted for a securities fraud scheme that cost investors $1 billion. From 2007 to 2010, Mr. Andres served as the Chief of the Criminal Division of the U.S. Attorney’s Office in the Eastern District of New York. He was an associate in Davis Polk’s Litigation Department from 1997 to 1999, when he left the firm to become an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Eastern District. Mr. Andres is the recipient of numerous awards in the legal profession. In 2008, he earned the Attorney General’s Distinguished Service Award. On three separate occasions – most recently in 2010 – he earned the DOJ’s Director’s Award for Superior Performance. In addition, in 2005, he was named one of the “Top 40 Under 40” by the National Law Journal, and also received the Henry L. Stimson Medal from the New York City Bar Association.
