LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The International 3D Society will present the 3D documentary ‘Pina’ with a special “Jury Prize” at its annual Awards Program February 1st, in Beverly Hills, CA. The film, which profiles German modern dance performer, choreographer, teacher and ballet director Pina Bausch, was directed by Wim Wenders.
“In judging this year’s many nominees, the Committee felt that this beautiful 3D movie deserved special recognition,” said 3D Society Awards Chairman Lenny Lipton. “So, along with our other categories, we will add ‘Pina’ to our list of honorees next Wednesday night.”
In a departure from traditional awards, the Society also announced that it would bestow a special award to Universal Studios Hollywood for King Kong 3D.
“This is one of the more unique 3D efforts we have seen come before our judging committee. But the ‘King Kong 3D’ attraction at Universal Studios Hollywood is a brilliant use of sophisticated 3D storytelling and technology. Under the creative direction of Peter Jackson, the Society felt that this achievement deserved recognition with an award,” said Jim Chabin, President of the International 3D Society.
More than 20 awards will be bestowed at the Society’s black-tie awards dinner February 1st at the Beverly Hills Hotel Los Angeles. Golden Globe® winner Martin Scorsese will be recognized with the Society’s Harold Lloyd Award for filmmaking, and Sony Corporation of America will be presented with the Sir Charles Wheatstone Award for education.
