“Bringing college radio stations to iHeartRadio is a great source of local and independent programming that offers our users a more diverse listening experience and also provides listeners new opportunities for music, news and sports exposure and discovery,” said John Hogan, President and CEO, Clear Channel Media and Entertainment. “Many of our top on-air personalities started their radio careers at college radio stations and we are glad to give back by providing these great college stations with an industry-leading national distribution platform – iHeartRadio.”
This new college radio programming furthers iHeartRadio’s commitment to providing listeners with an increasing variety of music choices from various formats, and will serve as a connection for alumni to their alma maters.
“We are thrilled to be among the inaugural stations offered as part of iHeartradio’s college radio programming,” said Mark Maben, General Manager of WSOU at Seton Hall University. “WSOU has long been an innovator in college radio and partnering with Clear Channel and leveraging iHeartRadio’s resources and national reach is a logical next step for our station. As a student-run station, working with iHeartRadio and Clear Channel means new opportunities for our students to learn and prepare themselves for careers in the 21st century media environment.”
“We are so excited that Clear Channel will offer a selection of college radio programming, including Ithaca College’s WICB, as part of the New iHeartRadio,” said Chris Wheatley, Manager of Radio Operations at Ithaca College. “College programming on iHeartRadio is a terrific addition for users, and also provides an exciting opportunity for our students involved with WICB. Partnering with Clear Channel and becoming part of iHeartRadio’s national platform extends the reach of our broadcast to Ithaca graduates, students, parents and radio fans throughout the country.”
“I applaud iHeartRadio for adding the college radio category and bringing attention to the vibrancy and excitement of college radio and to the young talent the radio industry needs and is searching for,” said Dan Vallie, founder of the Keller Radio Talent Institute at Appalachian State University. “Many of the students in college radio today have already been bitten by the radio bug and now it’s in their blood. And this generation not only benefits from the hands on learning lab experience they gain at WASU, but they also bring to the industry video and web skills and are social media savvy.”
iHeartRadio is excited to bring on these first 13 stations and for other colleges and universities that wish to join iHeartRadio, please send an email to colleges@iHeartRadio.com.
