HONG KONG--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Ahead of the CDN Asia Summit IPTV News caught up with Ian Chin, Chief Operating Officer at China's BesTV New Media (a subsidiary of Shanghai Media Group). As well as speaking at the CDN Asia Summit along with other major regional and international CDN experts, Ian gave IPTV News his thoughts on the evolution of Content Delivery Networks (CDNs) in Asia, the possibilities they create for over-the-top delivery of IP video, and some specific projects that BesTV is currently working on.
“The media business in Asia is unique, unlike in US or Europe: the market is huge and the potential is enormous. We dreamt that connectivity is the key issue - imagine if every country in Asia can have the connectivity like in Korea and Japan, then CDN businesses will grow many times over,” Ian said as he mused on the potential for the opportunities and challenges for Asia in the next 12 months.
Ian will be giving a presentation at 12.20 on day one of the Summit, on the Advantages of CDNs for Content Providers where he will be discussing:
- Highlighting the need to transport content to all consumers as quickly and efficiently as possible
- Reviewing how content providers are interfacing with CDN providers in Asia at present and current difficulties in this area
- The invaluable role that CDN partnerships could play in enabling foreign media content to be more easily distributed throughout the continent
- Working with CDNs to enable effective content distribution into multiple markets
Later on in the day Ian will be debating The Asian Content and Gaming Industry’s Need for Effective Delivery of Data-Rich Media where he and the rest of the panel will talk about:
- Highlighting Southeast Asia’s content and gaming market, showing enormous growth as online and gamer penetration expands
- What are the main considerations when outsourcing distribution of games, video, downloads, and multimedia applications over the Internet?
- Is CDN always a faster and more efficient way to deliver digital content to APAC customers?
- Discussing the need to guard against piracy and ensure optimal content security
- Will CDNs in Asia reduce the need for expensive infrastructure build-outs by the gaming industry?
- To what extent can it help to extend content delivery to enable content providers to reach a worldwide audience?
The event will be sponsored by Ericsson, Solution Box, Tata Communications, Verivue and ChinaNetCenter.
