BOULDER, Colo.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Eco-Products®, the nation’s leading brand of foodservice products made from renewable resources and recycled content, is proud to be recognized as a founding member of the Paper Recovery Alliance (PRA), a diverse group of stakeholders working together to create solutions for the recovery and processing of used paper foodservice packaging.
The PRA is a self-funded project within the Foodservice Packaging Institute (FPI) whose ultimate goal is to build the North American market for used paper foodservice packaging through the development of collection infrastructure, the expansion of end use markets for recovered fiber, the education of consumers, and collaboration with relevant regulatory bodies.
“Keeping paper products like coffee cups and food containers out of landfills is extremely difficult,” said Wendell Simonson, Director of Marketing for Eco-Products. “It is great to see organizations from all parts of the value chain coming together to work on this crucial issue, and we are thrilled to be a part of it.”
The primary methods available today for recovering used foodservice paper are recycling and composting. Composting in commercial facilities has proved viable, but access to those facilities remains limited. For this reason, there have been numerous pilot programs of late focused on integrating used paper packaging into existing recycling streams. The PRA will consider all available options for keeping this valuable material out of landfills during its work.
