GOLDEN, Colo.--()--Unisyn Medical Technologies, Inc., a leading provider of sustainable solutions to the diagnostic imaging industry, today announced the donation of two fully reconditioned ultrasound systems and several ultrasound probes to assist at-risk women and children in Paraguay. Working in conjunction with Dr. Roberto Leon, clinical associate professor in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of British Columbia, Unisyn and the Steve Nash Foundation coordinated the delivery of the ultrasound equipment to the Hospital Nacional Itaguá, near Asunción, the capital city of Paraguay, as part of the Foundation’s “Support Hope” platform in that country. The equipment will be used at the hospital’s maternity site, a referral center for high-risk pregnancies that supports approximately 3,000 deliveries a year in a low-income center.

Dr. Leon commented, “The challenge of providing high quality OB/GYN care in emerging countries like Paraguay can be difficult for North Americans to imagine. The generosity demonstrated by Unisyn Medical will undoubtedly save lives and improve the well being of hundreds and hundreds of patients.”

Christopher Cone, President of Unisyn’s Clinical Services Group, added, “We are excited about the opportunity to work with the Steve Nash Foundation and help raise the level of care for the women and children treated at the Hospital Nacional Itaguá.” Mr. Cone continued, “Our equipment donation is part of a bigger effort by the Steve Nash Foundation to provide more contemporary medical equipment aimed at assisting the hospital with the diagnosis and treatment of prenatal complications such as blighted ovum, ectopic and molar pregnancies.”

“Dr. Leon has championed and assisted the Foundation’s work in Paraguay for years, and to have that BC connection has been very meaningful for me,” said Steve Nash. “Chris and I were at Santa Clara University together, and to now have his support through Unisyn is great. Collaborations like this are key to supporting high-level, critical service delivery in underserved areas; this assist shows how much they value health, and provides a great model for other companies interested in using their resources for community good.”
