Dell Commits Technology and Social Media Expertise to U.S. State Department “Women in Public Service Project”

WASHINGTON--()--Dell today announced it is providing technology and social media expertise to support the “Women in Public Service Project,” organized by the U.S. State Department and the Seven Sisters Colleges. This innovative initiative and partnership between the U.S. Department of State and the Seven Sisters Colleges of Barnard College, Bryn Mawr College, Mount Holyoke College, Smith College and Wellesley College, aims to propel more women into positions of public service and political leadership.

As the only technology partner, Dell is providing the participants of the “Women in Public Service Project” with social media and technology training as well as industry-leading hardware. Dell’s participation was announced at a U.S. State Department event where policymakers and leading thinkers, including Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, Former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright and International Monetary Fund Managing Director Christine Lagarde, convened to highlight the urgent need for women in public service to attain positions of leadership.

“We have witnessed the amazing power of technology and social networking to foster collaboration and creativity, especially for emerging leaders and entrepreneurs who have ideas that can advance our communities and impact our world,” said Karen Quintos, senior vice president and chief marketing officer, Dell, in remarks announcing Dell’s participation. “It’s a tremendous privilege to support the Women in Public Service Project, as we continue to drive Dell initiatives that help people everywhere use technology to achieve what matters the most to them.”

Following the colloquium, 48 women leaders participating in the initiative will attend the Emerging Women Leaders in Public Service Forum, a two-day event during which they will explore issues such as:

  • 21st century skills needed for successful public servants and strategies to reach 50 percent participation by women in public service by 2050;
  • Mentoring and training needs; and,
  • Strategies for sustaining an international network of leaders and generating new insights on women's political leadership roles.
