INX Deploys Wireless Data Infrastructure Solution for Irving ISD

DALLAS--()--INX Inc., (NASDAQ:INXI) has completed a deployment of mobile data infrastructure for Irving, Texas Independent School District.

With over 40 campuses and administrative locations, Irving Independent School District (IISD) serves the community of Irving, Texas through several diverse K-12 schools and other learning facilities. As part of their success, IISD is home to the 1-to-1 laptop program, an acclaimed educational program in which a laptop is provided to each high school student. This program creates some challenges in accommodating approximately 34,000 students, teachers and administrators with reliable wireless connectivity. In order to address these challenges and improve the student experience, IISD and INX designed a comprehensive mobile device and wireless infrastructure in 39 of IISD’s campuses and administrative locations, leveraging new Cisco wireless technology that included controllers, access points and network switches. With the designed solution, IISD was enabled to deliver enhanced wireless connectivity to all students, including high school students who benefit from the 1-to-1 program. Irving ISD was also able to realize improved network reliability and availability. The network infrastructure solution has provided a more stable and higher performing local network and Internet connectivity, and thus greatly improved the learning experience for students across all campuses.

“Irving ISD is a district where children come first. This philosophy is also manifested in the design, architecture and deployment of state-of-the-art technology throughout the district so that we can continue to provide exceptional educational opportunities for our students. This network upgrade allowed the district to realize a number of benefits including: providing Gigabit to the classroom, doubling the wireless access coverage, and significantly increasing the speed, security, and reliability of our wireless network. The impact of this new technology on the district and in our 1-to-1 program has been extremely positive,” said Dr. Alice Owen, Division Director of Technology in Irving ISD.

Alvin McQuarters, Director of Infrastructure and Information Systems for Irving ISD, said, “INX has been an outstanding partner who has gone above and beyond what is typically done by a service provider. Their turnaround time during this engagement was incredibly fast and efficient and their engineering talent was key in allowing us to design and deploy a solution that would transform student experience across all of our campuses and learning centers.”

Andrew Cadwell, Senior Vice President of Sales and Field Operations for INX said, “We are pleased to partner with Irving ISD who is a thought leader in the K-12 education space. Working with them in their effort to create a better learning environment for students has been a very gratifying experience. The objectives of our engagement model are exemplified when we see how technology can be used to impact the lives of students and greatly improve the educational experience of students, teachers, and personnel.”

The deal totaled $12.9 million in product and service revenue for INX and was completed in September 2011. Irving ISD leveraged their E-rate discounts which saved the District 88% of the total cost. Technology bond funds approved by Irving voters in 2007 were used to complete the project.
