NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Barnes & Noble, Inc. (NYSE: BKS), the leading retailer of content, digital media and educational products, today announced that Birds & Noble’s Angry Birds Day will be landing in neighborhood bookstores nationwide on December 11. As an official U.S. partner for Angry Birds’ second birthday, Barnes & Noble is bringing “fowl play” to its more than 700 bookstores by hosting the first-ever Birds & Noble Scavenger Hunt. Customers can search the stores once each hour between the hours of 11am – 3pm for special hidden Mighty Eagle tokens, and become eligible to win a grand prize Angry Birds t-shirt. Along with the Birds & Noble Scavenger Hunt, customers can visit Barnes & Noble stores for other select activities, including coloring or high score contests, design your own Angry Birds character, Angry Birds Parades and guessing games.
“We are thrilled that Rovio has chosen Barnes & Noble as an official U.S. Angry Birds partner, and are excited to celebrate the Angry Birds’ second birthday on December 11 with a range of exclusive in-store activities,” said Jamie Iannone, President of Digital Products, Barnes & Noble. “Angry Birds is one of our bestselling NOOK Apps, and we are proud to offer customers the full collection of Angry Birds games optimized for NOOK Tablet and NOOK Color.”
“By partnering with Barnes & Noble, we’re offering a fantastic real-life Angry Birds experience, and look forward to celebrating the game’s second birthday with even more real-world enhancements,” said Peter Vesterbacka, Mighty Eagle and Chief Marketing Officer at Rovio. “Our game takes flight on NOOK devices, and we’re proud to team with Barnes & Noble to give our passionate fans a place to celebrate this fun occasion.”
In addition to offering a variety of Angry Birds games, including Angry Birds Rio and Angry Birds Seasons, Barnes & Noble blends digital with fun physical elements for gaming fanatics, offering the most comprehensive selection of Angry Birds merchandise under one roof – from books to calendars, games to apparel, mugs, backpacks, posters and so much more. Plus, customers can enjoy a sweet birthday treat on December 11 with an exclusive Angry Birds cookie.
This is not the first time the Mighty Eagle has soared into Barnes & Noble stores. Earlier this year, Barnes & Noble worked closely with Rovio to offer the first-ever exclusive “Magic Place” experience for NOOK® customers, making Barnes & Noble stores the first real world locations where Angry Birds fans can magically receive in-game rewards and unlockables. NOOK Tablet and NOOK Color customers using the Angry Birds NOOK App ($2.99) can connect automatically to the fast and free in-store Wi-Fi® to unlock the Mighty Eagle character at no cost, overcome challenging levels and earn Mighty Eagle achievements. Gameplay on NOOK Tablet and NOOK Color’s gorgeous 7-inch VividView™ display is fun and immersive as players dish out revenge to the green pigs who threaten the survival of the Angry Birds.
Angry Birds, along with thousands of high-quality, popular NOOK Apps, are available on the new NOOK Tablet, as well as the award-winning NOOK Color. In addition, customers can read what they love in rich, beautiful color – books, magazines, children’s books and more – from Barnes & Noble’s expansive digital bookstore of more than 2 million titles.
