NEW YORK--()--LexisNexis Legal & Professional, (www.lexisnexis.com), a leading provider of content and technology solutions, today announced the general availability of Lexis Advance™ – an innovative and new pure Web application designed to transform how legal professionals conduct research. Built on a state-of-the-art technology platform, Lexis Advance allows the primary researchers within legal and professional organizations to easily and efficiently find more highly relevant information than ever before, helping them to be more productive and drive better outcomes. Product videos and information are available at: http://www.lexisnexis.com/advance.

Today’s release is the next major step in a series of Lexis Advance launches with future releases continuing to expand available content and add new innovative tools.

“Lexis Advance is a defining milestone for online legal research,” said Bob Romeo, CEO of Research & Litigation Solutions at LexisNexis® Legal & Professional. “Through our comprehensive process of collaboration, we’ve developed a customer-centric approach to helping legal professionals achieve their goals faster and easier – fueling the development of a completely new solution that delivers access to more relevant results, innovative capabilities and tools, a trusted content advantage, and a transparent pricing model.”

Delivering Relevance

“Lexis Advance is so user-friendly and intuitive that I cannot believe that I lived without some of the functions it now offers,” said Alana Jochum, associate at Squire Sanders & Dempsey LLP. “Lexis Advance provides a way to efficiently and effectively narrow your research and feel confident that you really have looked at everything.”

To enable customers to find the most current and relevant answers to their searches, LexisNexis leverages enhancements created by unique content classification technology and leading edge search technology – all enabling LexisNexis to manage more than 18 million documents from 37,000 individual sources that are updated daily.

LexisNexis also fields a team of more than 1,000 lawyers and trained editors with professional legal backgrounds who review, annotate and update the legal content to help ensure each document in the vast collection is current and connected to other related documents. This domain expertise combined with LexisNexis development of its “big data” high performance computing cluster platform (HPCC Systems™) means LexisNexis is able to update its entire legal collection faster and more efficiently than ever, while also identifying and linking content, thereby uncovering previously hidden relationships between documents.

Innovative Tools & Content

Lexis Advance delivers an unmatched set of legal, news, business and analytical content that professionals trust. This important content is delivered within a single intuitive interface that includes: pre- and post-filters, folders for storing and sharing, research history, alerts and 24/7 customer support. The Lexis Advance service also includes exclusive tools, such as:

  • Integrated results from the open Web: Users can search the open Web along with content from the LexisNexis® services simultaneously.
  • Workplace Carousel: A visual and intuitive carousel interface enables the user to store search history, save recent and favorite filters, access work folders, set up alerts and access customer service.
  • Legal Issue Trail: LexisNexis intelligence helps users find and cite connections between cases that may not be obvious, ensuring that research is complete.
  • Mobile access: Users can access Lexis Advance on the go via mobile browser or through native Apple® iPhone® and iPad® applications.

In addition, Lexis Advance includes two exclusive visualization capabilities for its customers:

  • Research Map: A graphical depiction of prior research history that quickly helps a user visualize searches while validating the completeness of search results.
  • Shepard’s® Graphical: Shows the history of citing decisions in an easy visual grid or map format so users can quickly ensure they have good law.

These tools provide a more efficient and intuitive way to search while delivering comprehensive and relevant results that can be managed, stored and accessed on demand to give customers a faster way to confidently get the most complete results.

Pricing Model Offers More Informed Decisions

In direct response to input by customers, Lexis Advance is offered with a pricing model that provides legal researchers the opportunity to make more informed buying decisions and better control their costs. Customers with a subscription to lexis.com® will be able to access and use the core functionality of Lexis Advance at no additional cost. Additionally, to celebrate the launch of Lexis Advance, the two new innovations – Research Map and Shepard’s Graphical – are to be offered to subscription customers at no additional cost for the life of their contract.

Furthermore, subscribers can search for content on Lexis Advance, even if the content searched is not part of their subscription plan. Before accessing a document outside their subscription, Lexis Advance also shows a free preview of the document and its actual price prior to ordering. This means users can search Lexis Advance with confidence, knowing that their search activity will not result in an additional cost to their organization or in a bill-back charge to their internal or external clients.

Over time, LexisNexis will develop and launch more premium innovations that build on the Lexis Advance core functionality. Customers will be able to add these features for an additional cost.

Lexis Advance is the latest in a long line of new products introduced by LexisNexis. Last year, LexisNexis launched Lexis® for Microsoft Office and Lexis® Advance for Solos and its application for iPhone®. Earlier this year, LexisNexis released Lexis® Advance for Law Schools BETA, LexisNexis Firm Manager™, LexisNexis® Profile Suite, and LexisNexis® Early Data Analyzer.
