SAN ANTONIO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Last Friday night, the City of San Antonio unveiled the 80th annual lighting of the River Walk to celebrate the holiday season. This annual tradition – and a bucket list must-see for Texans everywhere – illuminates the beautiful San Antonio river with millions of lights, and this year, the river will shine up to twenty times brighter, thanks to a new light emitting diode (LED) lighting installation from Preferred Holiday Decor of San Antonio.
Adopting a forward-looking, environmentally-friendly trend, the City worked hand in hand with the experts at Preferred Holiday Decor to install over 1.7 million multi-colored LED lights on trees, bridges and structures throughout the River Walk. LED lights use less energy than incandescent bulbs and last up to ten years (whereas incandescents are replaced annually). In a project spanning 2 months with 20 experts working in shifts six days a week, the scope and depth of the River Walk lighting gives new meaning to having a green holiday.
The use of LED lights in holiday displays is a trend that more and more organizations are adopting. Because LED lights are brighter than incandescents, they last longer, offer energy efficiency and are more environmentally friendly, forward-looking companies are investing in the next generation of lighting options.
