Sports Media Industry ‘Legend’ Neal Pilson Joins LiveClips

STAMFORD, Conn.--()--Neal Pilson, one of the best known and most highly regarded executives in the sports media industry, has joined LiveClips™, an innovator and pioneer in delivering live sports action to fans via Internet-enabled and mobile devices, as a strategic media advisor.

“LiveClips is solidifying its relationships with strategic investors, partners and advisors who can provide the critical mass necessary for us to meet the demands of the growing marketplace,” said CEO Lewis Bakes. “The confidence Neal has shown in LiveClips, from his early stage participation with the company to his decision to be our strategic media advisor, will materially impact our ability to set and meet goals.”

“In today’s ‘copy cat’ world of television and TV sports, Neal Pilson is one-of-a-kind,” said Douglas Vunic, founder, president and CTO of LiveClips, who first brought Pilson to his company in 2008. “Neal has a special understanding of the way sports media is consumed and marketed in this very complex industry. He is an invaluable resource for a small company like ours as we continue to develop new technologies to allow fans to follow their favorite players, teams and can’t-miss games in new ways.”

Pilson: ‘LiveClips Far Quicker Than Anyone Else’

“Our industry puts a huge premium on being first, and Live Clips' technology delivers real-time video action and notification to the mobile platform far quicker than anyone else,” said Pilson. “There has to be a demand for that service.”

Pilson founded Pilson Communications, Inc. (PCI) in 1995 after 20 years at CBS, including 14 as president of CBS Sports. During the past 16 years, PCI has provided consulting and advisory services to clients including NASCAR, the International Olympic Committee, the Rose Bowl and Churchill Downs.

Previously, at CBS Sports, Pilson’s responsibilities included negotiating broadcast agreements for all of CBS's major sports franchises, including the NFL, the NCAA Basketball Tournament, The Masters, college football and basketball, as well as directing the acquisition of domestic television rights for the Olympic Winter Games. With Pilson at the lead, CBS won major Emmy Awards for coverage of the Final Four, NFL Football, Major League Baseball, the Daytona 500 and other events, and the George Foster Peabody Award for The Masters. In 1994, the International Olympic Committee awarded him the Olympic Order, the highest honor given by that organization.

Pilson holds an L.L.B. from Yale Law School, and was in private practice in New York before joining CBS. He has also been an executive at Metromedia, Inc. and the William Morris Agency, Inc.
