WASHINGTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--America’s new STEMconnector™ Web Site Launches November 30th at 2 PM ET, hosted at KPMG in McLean, VA with hundreds tuning in across America. STEMconector™, the site for millions to use serves as a national gateway to “Who is doing What” in STEM with the “one stop” Information resource on STEM Education. “America is home to the world’s strongest economy, greatest colleges and universities, and brightest minds,” said Senator Gillibrand. “We must out-educate, out-innovate and out-build the global competition. STEMconnector is helping to prepare and inspire our students today, so they are prepared for the jobs of the future.” The data on the site is compelling, such as California will need to fill 1,148,000 new STEM jobs by 2018 to stay competitive. Dr. Sidney Ribeau, president of Howard University speaks at the Launch and adds, "Howard plays a significant role in advancing the national STEM agenda. The world has changed dramatically in the last decade and our nation is especially challenged to meet the demand for a diverse and competitive work force. We look forward to partnering with STEMconnector on this important initiative.”
The Site features detailed profiles and uses the latest technology to connect massive amounts of data found within the “STEM Pipeline” for users. STEMconnector™ profile categories include: National STEM organizations; Corporations, Professional Organizations, Associations & Professional Societies; Diversity groups; Women & Girls; Think Tanks; Foundations; Federal Government; National Laboratories; Education; International Organizations and more. Numerous categories and subcategories are included and extensive information about STEM programs, missions and linkages are cross indexed. By 12-9-11, all states will complete with their own connectors, and more material will be added. In 2012 the Site will be adding more content, including research reports, information on internships and scholarships as it evolves. The ability for users to update profiles will be available after the launch.
Following the introductions, the team will guide participants through the site. “Did you Know?” questions will be asked, i.e. Did you know more than 87 Hispanic organizations can be found on the site? STEMConnector’s goal is to transform STEM and encourage collaboration and engagement of stakeholder groups in all areas of STEM education.
No other comprehensive STEM initiative database currently exists in the U.S. or elsewhere. STEMConnector’s goal will be to showcase programs and highlight those using the Gold Standard with measurement and assessment systems. The STEMConnector™ Project offers other STEM programs on mentoring, networking, information, best practices and mapping.
