McAfee Network Security Platform Receives Key Certification from the Department of Defense (DoD)

DoD Certification for McAfee Network Security Platform Version 6.1 Product Line is the First and Only Network Intrusion Prevention Solution to Complete this Certification

SANTA CLARA, Calif. & RESTON, Va.--()--A strategic, proven provider of integrated security platforms to the U.S. federal government, McAfee has announced that its flagship McAfee Network Security Platform (NSP) and McAfee Network Security Manager (NSM) version 6.1 product lines have been added to the U.S. Department of Defense Unified Capabilities Approved Products List (UC APL). McAfee Network Security Platform (formerly Intrushield) is the first network intrusion prevention system to complete the entire process and achieve this certification.

UC APL is a list of security vendors and products that have met the extremely stringent criteria the US DoD sets for its providers. To achieve approval for UC APL, among other things a company must undergo an extensive series of tests against criteria known as the Security Technical Implementation Guide (STIGs). The U.S. Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) Joint Interoperability Test Command (JITC) evaluated, tested and certified the company’s flagship network security platform technology for the new unified DoD certification.

After the extensive testing process was completed, the certification marked the first time a McAfee Network Intrusion Prevention (Network IPS) solution, and to the company's knowledge, any network intrusion prevention system has completely navigated and completed the UC APL approval process. McAfee's NSP and NSM solutions join McAfee Firewall Enterprise 7.1 which was one of the first firewalls to receive this level of certification.

“McAfee has built a proven track record of past performance within the Department of Defense due to the reliability, scalability and effectiveness of both our endpoint and network security solutions,” said Scott Montgomery, vice president, Public Sector Solutions at McAfee. “The new unified certification is directly reflective of the reputation of the proven security technology McAfee has delivered for the Department of Defense. We are looking forward to educating the DoD about the comprehensiveness of the McAfee Network Security Platform for world-class intrusion prevention and how it can deliver benefits across the DoD architecture.”

McAfee makes substantial annual investments toward achieving and maintaining worldwide government certifications including Common Criteria and FIPS certifications across its network security and endpoint solutions. Customers such as commercial insurance providers, healthcare practitioners and hospital networks, systems integrators, and other entities that do business with the US DoD have begun to realize that this certification is becoming buying and deployment criteria for these organizations in order to be accredited by the DoD as safe partners.

An independently-verified, best-in-class intrusion prevention system, McAfee Network Security Platform version 6.1 is a comprehensive network security solution that delivers real-time threat prevention against a wide array of cyber attacks. McAfee Network Security Platform tightly integrates with McAfee ePolicy Orchestrator platform, McAfee Vulnerability Manager, McAfee Risk Advisor as well as McAfee Network Access Control and Network Threat Behavior Analysis, all managed by Network Security Manager.
