Main Street America Donates Nearly 1 Ton of Goods to Local Food Banks

JACKSONVILLE, Fla.--()--The Main Street America Group has collected nearly 1 ton of non-perishable goods during its annual companywide Thanksgiving food drive.

The super regional property/casualty insurance company’s drive donated 1,770 pounds to several food banks located in the six cities where Main Street America has offices. All goods were donated by the company’s employees.

Locally-based organizations received goods collected during Main Street America’s two-week drive, which was held Oct. 31 through Nov. 14, 2011:

  • Auburn, Mass. – 201 pounds for Worcester (Mass.) County Food Bank.
  • Indianapolis, Ind. – 90 pounds for Gleaners Food Bank of Indianapolis.
  • Jacksonville, Fla. – 685 pounds for Second Harvest Food Bank of Northeast Florida.
  • Keene, N.H. – 438 pounds for The Community Kitchen.
  • Richmond, Va. – 150 pounds for Central Virginia Food Bank.
  • Syracuse, N.Y. – 206 pounds for The Food Bank of Central New York.

“Each year, we hold our companywide Thanksgiving food drive because Main Street America is dedicated to making a positive impact in the communities where we work and live,” said Tom Van Berkel, Main Street America’s chairman, president and chief executive officer.

“During the food drive, our employees always rise to the occasion and truly embody one of our company’s core values of service by giving generously to those who are less fortunate in our communities. It was great to see that we experienced a 100-pound increase over last year’s drive,” Van Berkel added.

In addition to an annual Thanksgiving food drive, Main Street America also conducts a holiday toy drive each year, benefiting Toys for Tots. The 2011 toy drive is scheduled for Nov. 28 through Dec. 12, 2011. Just like the food drive, all toys are donated by the company’s employees.
