MINNEAPOLIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--TE Connectivity today announced that its FlexWave Prism distributed antenna system (DAS) has been deployed at the Eden Park stadium in Auckland, New Zealand. Eden Park was the main stadium for the Rugby World Cup, and hosted 60,000 spectators at the games. The FlexWave Prism DAS provides uniform coverage and capacity throughout the property, and delivers services for Telecom New Zealand and Vodafone New Zealand customers.
Eden Park is New Zealand’s premier rugby stadium, and was the site of the inaugural Rugby World Cup in 1987. It hosted all of the final games in this year’s World Cup, which ran from September through October and featured competition among teams from across the globe.
TE Connectivity’s reseller Sky Communications handled the deployment. The FlexWave Prism DAS covers all areas of the stadium and incorporates 15 FlexWave Prism remote units with 253 antennas. The equipment delivers 850 MHz, 900 MHz, 1800 MHz and 2100 MHz frequencies to provide 2G and 3G services.
“The stadium needed a solution to prepare for capacity crowds of mobile phone users during the World Cup, and to prepare the venue for future mobile data applications,” said Merv Taylor, general manager at Sky Communications. “The FlexWave Prism DAS was an ideal choice for delivering mobile coverage and capacity at Eden Park.”
“The system covers indoor and outdoor areas of the stadiums equally well,” said Chris Jurasek, vice president and general manager of TE Wireless and Services. “This flexibility and performance make TE’s FlexWave Prism DAS products the most popular choice for in-building mobile services at stadiums around the world.”
