Baobab Foods Sets New ORAC Value Highs in Latest Antioxidant Tests by Brunswick Labs

140,000 Antioxidant ORAC Units per 100-Gram Serving in New Baobab Fruit Powder

Booth #21043
Supply Side West 2011

BELLEVUE, Wash.--()--New tests indicate Baobab Foods products reach new levels of Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity (ORAC) values at 1,400 per gram. Baobest™ Baobab Fruit Powder – a raw, whole food which dehydrates naturally in the fruit pod and requires no freeze drying, pasteurization or heat extraction – exceeds the ORAC values of other popular superfruit products.

Conducted by the independent Brunswick Laboratories, the new ORAC tests dubbed ORAC5.0 by the lab, now account for five primary free radicals, instead of just the single radical, peroxyl, used in previous tests. The five free radicals included in the new tests are:

  1. peroxyl radicals
  2. hydroxyl radicals
  3. peroxynitrate radicals
  4. oxide anion radicals
  5. singlet oxygen radicals

While the high, overall ORAC5.0 value for Baobab Foods products is significant, it’s equally important that substantial antioxidants are present for each of the five primary free radicals. Specifically, products with raw, whole-food baobab from Baobab Foods deliver antioxidants addressing the five most common free radicals.

“By accounting for all five major free radicals, Brunswick Labs is now conducting the most advanced testing of actual ORAC levels,” said Stephan Broburg, vice president of product development, Baobab Foods. “Our products with Baobest are delivering superior ORAC values, which along with baobab’s exceptional fiber content, are an excellent means of lowering inflammation throughout the body.”

In addition to the pure Baobest Fruit Powder, which is on display this week in the E.T. Horn booth, #21043, at Supply Side West, Baobab Foods also recently introduced the newest member of its family of baobab superfruit products – chewy Baobest Fruit Cubes. The Fruit Cubes are available in three flavors – mango, raspberry and strawberry. Baobest Fruit Cubes also boast high ORAC5.0 values – more than 8,000 per 40 gram serving – as well as six to eight grams of fiber per serving. And with no added sugar, the Fruit Cubes contain up to 50 percent less sugar than most popular dried fruits, making them ideal snacks and components of other foods, such as cereals, trail mixes and snack bars.

In addition to exceptional antioxidant capacity, Baobab Foods products also deliver a cornucopia of nutrients, including:

  • Dietary fiber
  • Soluble fiber
  • Vitamin A
  • Potassium
  • Magnesium
  • Iron
  • Calcium
