Ovum Technology Audit Recognizes Talend’s Ability to Address Integration Holistically

New research finds that open source vendor is well positioned to take advantage of synergies between data management and application integration projects

LOS ALTOS, Calif.--()--Talend, a global open source software leader, today announced the availability of new independent research from Ovum, based on a thorough product review and market positioning analysis of Talend ESB, an enterprise service bus (ESB) product that delivers both data and application integration capabilities. Produced by principal analyst Rob Hailstone, the document titled “Technology Audit: Talend ESB, version 4.2.0,” highlights Talend ESB as a product that “aligns well with Ovum's view that integration should be addressed holistically and not divided arbitrarily between application and data integration.”

Talend “provides a consistent single-platform approach to both data integration and application integration, with commonality of tools that is being enhanced within each release,” wrote Hailstone in the report. “It provides education and implementation services and a range of support options, which should ensure rapid and successful deployments. Taken together, these features make Talend ESB worthy of serious consideration by organizations that recognize the need to address integration holistically, particularly when budgets are tight.”

The Ovum technology audit report further stated, “Talend ESB is particularly appropriate for organizations that wish to take a consistent approach to integration based on reusable tooling and services across both data and applications. Organizations that are deterred by the prohibitively high costs of some commercial SOA suites should consider the solid architectures provided by open source alternatives such as Talend ESB.”

Talend ESB is the result of Talend's acquisition of Sopera in November 2010, which brought together Talend's expertise in delivering open source data management and integration and Sopera's capabilities in SOA-based application integration.

“The application integration and data management markets are very close and converging, and we have numerous proof points of this happening already,” said Fabrice Bonan, co-founder and chief operating officer, Talend. “We are pleased that Ovum’s Technology Audit echoes our view that these technologies are meant to be used together in IT organizations, and acknowledges Talend ESB’s ability to deliver tangible and sustainable business benefits to our customers.”

Ovum’s key findings on Talend ESB include:

  • Talend ESB is unusual in giving equal weight to application and data integration within a single product, and encourages its users to adopt a more holistic integration policy.
  • The low learning curve of the product and professional implementation and education available from Talend mean that users with existing Java skills should be able to deploy the product quickly.
  • Talend ESB will run in any popular Java environment and supports flexible deployment options from a centralized integration hub to a fully distributed endpoint deployment of the integration logic, and any required combination of these.
  • Organizations that are already considering or using Apache CXF, Apache Camel or Apache ActiveMQ will find Talend ESB an appropriate fit.
