NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Stratus Media Group, Inc. (OTCBB:SMDI) today announced its partnership with Martin Scorsese’s The Film Foundation to create a program unique to the Perugia International Film Festival, which focuses on important and vibrant film restorations.
The program will launch in the spring of 2012, screening the Foundation’s newly restored, classic films in addition to presenting a series of educational workshops with film restoration experts. Students from Perugia’s universities will be in attendance to participate in the film preservation workshops and enjoy the screening of important works to date.
“It is of great importance for us to partner with filmmakers and organizations that make a difference, and we are honored that Martin Scorsese’s The Film Foundation is the first to become affiliated with us,” said Paul Feller, President and CEO of Stratus Media Group. “We look forward to screening their amazing work at our Film Festival.”
The Festival will screen recent important works such as Senso, a film promoting the Italian heritage of global cinema, and will help facilitate the films continued use in production and exhibition. An important objective to PIFF is educating audiences about history, art, and preservation and restoration process of film. Senso has been restored by StudioCanal, Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia-Cineteca Nazionale, and Cineteca di Bologna al’immagine Ritrovata. Restoration funding provided by Gucci, The Film Foundation, and Comitato Italia 150.
“We are very proud to partner with the Perugia International Film Festival in its inaugural year,” said Jennifer Ahn, Managing Director of The Film Foundation. “The missions of both organizations are directly aligned – working to save classic cinema, providing access to these beautiful restorations, and educating the public about the importance of film preservation.”
The Film Foundation is a nonprofit organization established in 1990 by Martin Scorsese, dedicated to protecting and preserving motion picture history by providing annual support for preservation and restoration projects at the leading film archives. Since its inception, the foundation has been instrumental in raising awareness of the urgent need for film preservation and has helped to save over 545 motion pictures.
In addition, the foundation also creates innovative educational programs such as The Story of Movies, an interdisciplinary curriculum designed to teach students about the cultural, artistic, and historical significance of film.
The Perugia International Film Festival is owned and operated by US-based Stratus Media Group. The Festival has full support of the City of Perugia, which has granted wide-ranging access to its cultural and historic venues. The festival is also consulting with the Umbria Film Commission and William Morris Endeavor Entertainment. William Morris Endeavor will provide strategic counsel ensuring the Festival produces a unique celebration of the fine art of film and becomes a destination for Industry leaders, directors, producers, actors, artistic directors, and film curators.
