SAN RAMON, Calif.--()--Green Plug (www.greenplug.us), the first developer of digital technology enabling communication and negotiation between electronic devices and their power sources, today announced it has been named a “Global 200 Top Private Company for 2011” by the publishers of AlwaysOn.

Green Plug was cited for its ground-breaking contributions to innovation in energy management, the Smart Grid and energy efficiency. Green Plug will be honored during “GoingGreen 2011,” set for Sept. 27-28, 2011, at San Francisco City Hall.

The AlwaysOn editorial team, along with partners at Morgan Stanley, SAP, KPMG, Hewlett-Packard, Goldman Sachs, Technology Partners, Bridge Bank, Sheppard Mullin, Silicon Valley Bank, NEA, and industry experts across the globe scoured the entrepreneurial community to identify the top 200 private companies that are transforming our world into a safer, more efficient and environmentally friendly place while at the same time creating high-growth businesses that offer huge upside potential for investors.

“This year’s Going Green Global 200 companies are leaders among their peers and developing game-changing approaches and technologies that are likely to push outside the bounds of existing markets and away from entrenched players,” said Tony Perkins, founder and editor of AlwaysOn. “As the top venture capital-backed greentech companies continue to bring new, innovative products and services to the world, they’re joining forces with utilities, major private and public companies, and government departments to pioneer a new way for the world to manage its precious resources. The Going Green 200 Companies are providing the technology platforms, energy sources, waste solutions and software services needed to create integrated systems and solutions to bring a clean future to the world today.”

“Green Plug brings advanced digital technology and innovation to a largely neglected analog product space – the ubiquitous power adapter bundled with nearly every consumer electronic device,” said Frank P. Paniagua, Jr., founder and CEO of Green Plug. “We are pleased to be recognized by AlwaysOn for introducing innovative technology that enables chip-makers and power supply manufacturers to bring further green technology innovations to market.”

In early 2011, Green Plug announced the Green Power Processor™ (GPP), an advanced System-on-Chip (SoC) mixed-signal controller that enables CE manufacturers to design digital power adapter architectures that can also facilitate communication between the power source and connected devices and enable participation in the emerging home energy management network. Unlike analog power controllers, Green Plug-enabled adapters can communicate changes in power requirements, such as higher or lower voltage, or to shut off completely when not in use.

Founded in 2006, Green Plug is venture-funded and backed by a solid IP portfolio that includes 18 U.S.-issued patents and six patents pending.
