THE FALLS RESORT AND GOLF CLUB UNDERGOES EXPANSION AND RENOVATION

New ownership bringing enhanced recreational amenities to hidden gem in New Ulm

Under recently restructured ownership, and with new golf course management by Troon Golf, The Falls Resort and Golf Club has begun extensive revitalization, and is nearing completion of the first phases of an expansion and renovation program.

Located a little over one hour west of Houston in New Ulm, Texas, The Falls is a gated residential community and resort, with an award-winning 18-hole golf course rated 4 ½ stars by Golf Digest. It operates through a series of newly created companies which are jointly owned by The Swalm Foundation and Breakaway Development Group, LLC (Breakaway).

“We are excited to be part of this premier development,” states T.L. Spencer, chairman and CEO of Breakaway. “The planned renovations and expansion activities combined with the golf management of Troon Golf, will take The Falls residential and guest experience to a new level.”

Originally developed in the mid 1980's, The Falls offers a quiet, country setting with premium resort amenities, nestled in a terrain of gently rolling hills and woodlands. The development includes Cascades, a fine dining restaurant; meeting spaces; single-family homes and residential lots; villas and hotel rooms available for individual and group getaways; four lighted tennis courts; two swimming pools with a children’s wading pool; and a one-acre fishing pond. Noted golf figures Dave Marr and Jay Riviere designed the golf course, which is open to the public.

Beginning in the 1990's, the resort benefitted from the ownership and oversight of noted philanthropist Dave C. Swalm, founder of Texas Petrochemicals Corporation, and a major benefactor of Mississippi State University and its Dave C. Swalm School of Chemical Engineering. Dave and his wife Beth also founded The Swalm Foundation, which has provided generous support for a wide variety of charitable organizations, primarily in the realm of social and human services. Since Dave's passing in 2008, The Swalm Foundation has continued to maintain an ownership interest in the resort.

The first phase of revitalization and expansion includes a new 1 ¼ acre water amenity featuring a splash pad with family-themed play structures, the first portion of a planned 100 unit new condominium development, and a new main entrance feature. Future plans call for a new fitness center, additional residential subdivisions, and renovations to the pro shop, club, and lodging facilities.
