BALTIMORE--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Registration for the U.S. Army’s 10th annual eCYBERMISSION competition is now underway at www.ecybermission.com.
This year, eCYBERMISSION celebrates its 10th anniversary of promoting Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education among our nation’s future leaders.
eCYBERMISSION is a free, web-based, STEM competition that allows students to work together to solve a problem in their community while using the scientific method, scientific inquiry or engineering design process.
Sponsored by the U.S. Army, eCYBERMISSION challenges students to think about real-world applications of STEM while promoting Army values and great volunteer opportunities.
eCYBERMISSION encourages students from a diverse range of proficiency levels, interests and backgrounds to take an active interest in their education and understand the impact STEM fields have on the world around them.
Over the past 10 years, the program has addressed limited resources in the classroom while providing a broad-based personal growth opportunity, teaching students communication, teamwork, responsibility and confidence. The program also gives students unique access to STEM professionals for a vital career development experience.
New this year, students who complete an engineering-related project can choose to follow the engineering design process instead of the scientific method/inquiry, allowing these students a more accurate method when completing their Mission Folder, or final project. The new option was incorporated due to the growing number of engineering-related projects students complete each year.
Teams have the opportunity to win State, Regional and National Awards and students on winning teams can receive up to $8,000 in U.S. EE Savings Bonds. The 16 First-Place Regional Winning Teams are invited to attend the National Judging and Educational Event in Washington, D.C. Since the competition's inception in 2002, the U.S. Army has awarded more than $8 million in U.S. EE Savings Bonds, and more than 83,000 students have participated.

Justice, Commanding General of the Army’s Research, Development and Engineering Command. “Our nation will continue to rely on advances in science, technology, engineering and mathematics to solve real world problems, so it is important that we invest today in the leaders of tomorrow.”
Registration for the 2011-2012 competition will remain open through Dec. 16, 2011. Final Mission Folder submissions are due Feb. 24, 2012. To participate, students must be U.S. citizens enrolled in sixth through ninth grade at any U.S.-based public, private or home school, or Department of Defense Education Activity school abroad.
