ManciniDuffy Acquires TSC Design

Another Step in the firm’s growth and diversification

NEW YORK--()--In the latest significant development in the firm’s ongoing strategy to further diversify and strengthen its practice, ManciniDuffy has acquired certain assets of the interior design firm TSC Design. Founded in 1995 by owner William Sotomayor, 48, TSC is headquartered in New York City with an additional office in Little Falls, New Jersey. Sotomayor becomes a Principal and member of ManciniDuffy’s Board of Directors and Management Committee.

“These are both highly successful, dynamic organizations,” says Anthony P. Schirripa, FAIA, IIDA, Chairman of ManciniDuffy. “By uniting the two, we refine and strengthen the services and skills provided by each and create a practice of even greater value to our clients.” By way of example, Schirripa cites the retail sector where TSC’s clients include Tiffany, Gucci, Starbucks, and DKNY, while ManciniDuffy is known for the design of large luxury department stores including Bloomingdale’s and Saks Fifth Avenue. The expansion of ManciniDuffy’s diversity has been a key component of the firm’s business strategy for many years, Schirripa explains, and the firm will continue pursuing acquisitions as it grows and further diversifies.

Moreover, Schirripa continues, “This partnership with TSC provides us with greater agility and versatility to serve current and future clients in New Jersey.”

Schirripa also notes that Sotomayor’s position as a Principal is in keeping with ManciniDuffy’s 90-year tradition of continually bringing new perspectives into the firm’s leadership.

Sotomayor describes the acquisition as a significant path to growth in size and depth. “I have long admired ManciniDuffy, for their reputation for design excellence and their expertise in project implementation,” he explains. “It was clear to me that this partnership is a real merging of strengths: the ongoing relationships I have established, ManciniDuffy’s powerful design capabilities, and our mutual commitment to partner involvement in projects, and dedication to design and service excellence for our clients.”

The firm will operate in New York and New Jersey as ManciniDuffy/TSC, uniting on August 29th at 275 7th Avenue, currently TSC’s New York headquarters, while maintaining offices in Little Falls, NJ and Washington, DC.

Building on its strategy of diversification and judicious growth, ManciniDuffy has recently undertaken other initiatives to set its course for the future:

In October 2009, two Washington, DC-based architecture practices, Michael Winstanley Architects Planners and Still & Svitchan Associates, joined ManciniDuffy’s DC office. That merger helped realize ManciniDuffy’s long-term vision to create a scalable practice that offers its clients a diverse range of integrated design solutions across different practice disciplines and markets. The DC office operates as ManciniDuffy/Winstanley. In April 2010, Michael Winstanley, AIA, AICP, Managing Principal of the DC office, was named CEO of ManciniDuffy.

ManciniDuffy was advised in this transaction by Richard Bascetta of the Bascetta Group, a mergers and acquisitions advisory firm. Bascetta also facilitated ManciniDuffy’s 2009 acquisitions in Washington, DC.

Founded more than 90 years ago, Mancini•Duffy, www.manciniduffy.com, has offices in New York City, Little Falls, NJ and Washington, DC. As a member of IPID, International Partners in Design, Mancini•Duffy serves the diverse needs of its expanding multi-national client base across the U.S. and in Great Britain, Europe, East Asia and Australia.
