Ethernet Alliance Completes Interoperability Test Event for EEE Std. 802.3azTM-2010 Energy Efficient Ethernet

Six Ethernet Alliance Members Participated

BEAVERTON, Ore.--()--The Ethernet Alliance® announces its successful Energy Efficient Ethernet subcommittee interoperability plugfest for products designed to support IEEE Std. 802.3azTM‐2010 Energy Efficient Ethernet. There were six Ethernet Alliance members including Broadcom Corporation, Intel, LSI, Marvell Technology Group Ltd., Qualcomm Atheros and Vitesse Semiconductor. These companies gathered at the UNH-IOL, the Interoperability Lab at the University of New Hampshire, in Durham, New Hampshire during the week of August 8th, 2011 to verify interoperability of EEE devices that support the 100BASE-TX and 1000BASE-T EEE capabilities.

This is the second such interoperability event hosted by the Ethernet Alliance; the first event was held in April of 2010. Holding this second event shows the increased market adoption of the EEE standard.

“The Energy Efficient Ethernet standard, technology, and products reinforce Ethernet as a ubiquitous and green connectivity technology. Sponsoring the EEE interoperability event allowed the Ethernet Alliance to support the market transition to EEE,” said Crystal Black, Ethernet Alliance Marketing Chair.

“I am pleased to see these member companies taking the lead in network energy-efficiency through their participation in the plugfest,” said Mike Bennett, Senior Network Engineer at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory and Chair of the IEEE 802.3az Task Force. “Demonstrating interoperability paves the way for future innovation using IEEE 802.3az-2010 as it proves the features simply work when a network is built, which is something end users expect from Ethernet technology.”
