Kabam Pushes the Edge with Sci-Fi Themed Edgeworld Launching on Both Facebook and Google+ Games

Leading Developer of Hardcore Social Games Announces New Game That Combines Strategy and Tactical Combat Features in a Massively Multiplayer Persistent World

REDWOOD CITY, Calif.--()--Kabam™, the leading developer of hardcore social games, today announced the official launch of Edgeworld™, its new sci-fi strategy game for social networks, now available on Facebook and Google+ games. Edgeworld represents a step forward in Kabam’s strategy games, adding fully animated tactical combat, real-time battles, alliances and other new gameplay mechanics. It also marks the company’s first new game to launch simultaneously on both Facebook and Google+.

Edgeworld immerses players in an epic battle for dominance of the resource rich, abandoned alien planet Cerulea IV. It’s a dynamic game-world where player choice affects how the battle unfolds. Players assume the role of a former Galactic Union Commander who arrives on Cerulea and is met by warring factions battling for control of the planet's land and resources. Players must mine valuable resources, build and defend bases, plan strategy, form alliances and battle enemies in their quest to control the planet. As Commander, your strategic decisions and trade-offs on base defense structure, resource management and battle tactics can easily spell the difference between winning …. or extermination.

Edgeworld represents a new sub-genre of strategy gaming for Kabam as we expand our portfolio of hardcore strategy games. We plan to build on this foundation and introduce new genres and game styles in the months to come,” said Kevin Chou, Chief Executive Officer, Kabam. “We’re also very excited to be among the select group of launch partners for Google+ games. We hope that fans of Edgeworld and Dragons of Atlantis™, our other game on the platform, benefit from this expanded choice in the marketplace.”

Success in Edgeworld lies in training and researching alien, human, and mech military units for offense, as well as building turrets and defenses for base protection. Players can engage in battle with both non-player factions and human players alike. The game’s real-time battle system gives players more strategic control in terms of troop selection, placement, timing and form of attack. As units are warped in, players can watch the battle unfold in real-time as their rampaging units attack enemy structures and turrets. The inclusion of animation, sound effects and music add to the immersiveness of the game experience.

“Our vision for Edgeworld was to create a strategy game combining tactical combat, tower defense, empire building and diplomacy wrapped around it,” said James Holloway, Executive Producer of Edgeworld. “Utilizing a new engine, we created a game that is easy to access, yet still offers the intense competition and strategic depth core gamers are looking for. Our future roadmap will introduce more new and unique features, such as a new map where alliances battle for control of territory, that advanced gamers will find entertaining and extremely engaging.”

To enhance the game’s social component, Edgeworld features player alliances and real time chat with global and alliance channels active in the same stream. These features enhance the social play element in the game, allowing players to simultaneously monitor their alliance as well as the larger world. In an MMO first, players can click on the name of any player in chat to scout their base, and if they wish, attack it. This can be used for everything from giving friendly tips on base layout to immediately acting on verbal feuds that can erupt in the chat. This new feature ensures that players will have to walk the walk if they want to talk the talk.

“We put a lot of time and effort into enhancing the art, animation, music and sound for Edgeworld, but we’re just getting started,” noted Holloway. “We’ll continue to push ourselves to enhance all aspects of the game to make it an even more immersive world and fun gaming experience for core gamers.”

Edgeworld is now live in a beta version at plus.google.com for Google+ games and at http://apps.facebook.com/edgeworld/ for Facebook.
