SHANGHAI--(BUSINESS WIRE)--International Lead and Zinc Industry Summit 2011, based on the powerful lineup of participants and original views of market dynamics, has aroused great interests of mine owners, smelters, traders, futures and downstream enterprises from home and abroad. This year, it will gather management titles from over 150 corporations in Zhengzhou, the capital city of central China’s Henan Province.
As is well known, China has the second largest lead-zinc reserves in the world, but with the increasing demand and exploitation year by year, its mineral resources tend to dry up. At present, the remaining domestic lead and zinc resources can only be exploited for another seven or eight years.
Faced with this shortage, experts suggest developing a circular economy. At the same time, some companies also eye Europe, America, Australia and other countries to build overseas factories. Then what is the prospect of lead-zinc recycle like in China? Can the shortage of mineral resources be eased by improving the use of mine tailings and the recycle of lead and zinc? Will it be a trend to extend the overseas industrial chain?
Meanwhile, as China’s central bank launched intensive monetary control policies within a short time in 2011 which led to a shortage of funds, the market enthusiasm was suppressed. Besides, China’ zinc concentrate has a heavy dependence on overseas market; while continued high global reserves have impacted the zinc prices. How can the excessive supply of zinc be eased? How will zinc prices change in the future?
On the other hand, in March this year, lead futures were officially listed on Shanghai Futures Exchange, but the lead market remained placid, with lead prices still in a recession. However, in view of an expected active delivery of lead futures in September, can the lead price rise instead of further dipping?
