VITEC to Introduce Optibase MGW Transcoder – Military Grade, Multi-Stream IP Transcoder with KLV Pass-Through

Blade-based platform, to debut at year end, transcodes MPEG-2 and H.264 Full Motion Video streams to lower data rates while preserving vital CoT/KLV metadata

SUNNYVALE, Calif.--()--VITEC, a leading provider of advanced video solutions, today announced that it will introduce the new Optibase MGW Transcoder platform at AUVSI's Unmanned Systems North America show on August 16-19 and the LandWarNet show on August 23-25. The Optibase MGW Transcoder packs twenty-four cutting-edge all-digital transcoding engines in modular military-grade blade architecture. The platform intercepts live full-motion-video (FMV) streams from a variety of encoders and sensors and transcodes them in real-time to a range of resolutions and data-rates, enabling military units to disseminate vital situational and tactical video to remote users and mobile devices.

With the number of FMV services growing exponentially and UAV platforms increasingly switching to high-definition, higher bit-rate streams, network bandwidth is hampering the video distribution capabilities of DoD and other Government agencies. Command centers and video hubs (VDHs) that aggregate real-time video feeds must find ways to efficiently distribute streams to ground troops as well as to remote sites.

The MGW Transcoder is designed to help military and government units to optimize FMV service data rates and resolutions for effective dissemination across LANs and WANs, while preserving Cursor-On-Target (CoT) and Key-Length-Value (KLV) metadata. Using best-in-class rate shaping efficiency with superb video quality at bit rates ranging from 100kbps to 15Mbps, MGW Transcoder outputs high-res and low-res copies of each video feed with optional AES encryption and MISB compliant metadata.

“In developing the MGW Transcoder, our goal was to give our customers the ability to easily transcode IP streams to the formats, rates and resolutions they need to reliably deliver critical video feeds with metadata at minimal delay,” said Eli Garten, Vice President of Optibase Product Management at VITEC. “The advanced, dense MGW Transcoder will provide exceptional transcoding functionality. We have worked hard to ensure that the new platform is fully interoperable with FMV services currently deployed and that it will complement the comprehensive set of Optibase FMV and IPTV solutions that our customers rely on to gain an edge on the battlefield. We eagerly anticipate its launch.”
