LOS ANGELES--()--Concord Law School of Kaplan University, the nation’s leading fully-online law school, celebrated the graduation of 62 students today at The Skirball Cultural Center in Los Angeles. The graduating class of doctors, business people, engineers, and other professionals included 31 graduates of the Juris Doctor program and 31 who earned an Executive Juris Doctor degree. More than 46 percent of this graduating class entered Concord already having earned a graduate degree.

David Yellen, dean and professor of law at Loyola University Chicago School of Law, delivered the keynote speech. The two schools, Loyola and Concord, have partnered over the past few years in providing online LL.M. and Master of Jurisprudence degree programs in health law as well as a newly launched online Master of Jurisprudence in Children’s Law and Policy.

In his address, Yellen referred to the growing trend in online education noting that many schools now want to copy the kind of partnership Loyola and Concord have forged. With a nod toward today’s highly regulated economy, he added, “You will see a lot of reason for Concord’s existence in the future, and what Concord has offered you will become more important as time goes on.”

A number of graduates received awards in recognition of service to the legal community, contribution to the law school, and academic excellence. The Kaplan Award for Legal Services was presented to Marie Wolf. The ALI-ABA award went to Natalie Moores. The Sue Lane Award (named after Concord’s first registrar whose strong work ethic, compassionate nature, and service to the community are the basis for this award) was presented to Kathryn Hawkes. The school’s highest academic awards, the Jack Goetz Award for academic excellence (named after the founding dean of Concord) and the EJD Award for Academic Excellence went to Kelly Roe and Shy Shorer respectively.

At the conclusion of the ceremony, Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Mark Juhas swore in Melissa Hollis, a Concord alumna, to the State Bar of California.
