Nexon Goes Social With Launch of MapleStory Adventures

LOS ANGELES--()--MapleStory, Nexon’s wildly popular side-scrolling action MMORPG, has expanded to the social gaming platform today with MapleStory Adventures. This movement marks Nexon’s branching out to the Facebook gaming territory with one of the first true action MMORPGs to hit the social space.

“MapleStory Adventures represents one of Nexon’s top priorities of bringing our most popular games to the biggest audiences,” said Daniel Kim, CEO of Nexon America. “The game brings a whole new action RPG element to the Facebook space, a genre that hasn’t been widely explored on the social gaming platform.”

Optimized for the Facebook platform, MapleStory Adventures offers the same winning ingredients as the original MapleStory, which boasts more than 100 million players worldwide. Its colorful anime-style aesthetic, action-oriented gameplay mechanics and engaging plotlines are all present, only simplified for shorter bursts of gaming periods. Along with the traditional action MMORPG elements that the original PC version offers, players will be able to interact with their Facebook friends by inviting them to complete quests. When hired, friends’ avatars will appear alongside the player to help attack enemies through asynchronous play. Players can also send gifts to their Facebook friends allowing both parties to boost energy and level up their skills.

During a recent 11-day closed beta test, MapleStory Adventures almost immediately reached its beta cap of 30,000 players and amassed more than 40,000 “likes” on Facebook. During the short beta period, players participated in quests more than 862,000 times and picked up 14.2 million items like gold and other consumables.

The PC version of MapleStory recently set another new record for the highest number of concurrent users in Korea when 588,067 players logged in at the same time. This formula has helped attract its huge worldwide player base that includes more than 8 million registered users in North America. In December, MapleStory broke its own records in North America when more than 136,000 players logged in at the same time.
