SB NATION ANNOUNCES THE VERGE TO LAUNCH THIS FALL

Ending months of speculation about the name of its new consumer technology site headed by Joshua Topolsky along with a roster of the industry’s leading writers and editors, SB Nation today announced that The Verge would launch early this Fall, and that out of the gate, the site would be powered by BMW of North America. News that SB Nation and Topolsky would operate the highly anticipated site under the name The Verge (www.theverge.com) first emerged early this morning when Topolsky made his 10th appearance as resident tech expert on NBC’s Late Night With Jimmy Fallon.

The Verge will be an authoritative and comprehensive source of news, reviews, journalistic features and product information covering the world of consumer technology. The Verge will produce and syndicate extensive original video and other multi-media technology programming, occupy a high ground of thought leadership for the industry, and be a destination for the vast and growing community of technology users and enthusiasts to share insights and information. SB Nation Chief Content Officer and Co-Founder of The Verge, Marty Moe, will run the new consumer technology business.

Topolsky and a core staff, many of whom worked together at Engadget, have since April been publishing an interim site, This Is My Next (www.thisismynext.com.) Even as a temporary site with a small staff publishing a limited volume of content while The Verge is in formation, This Is My Next has broken multiple technology news stories and was cited by Time as one of The Best Blogs of 2011 “It may be temporary, but it’s also exemplary,” wrote Time, “with everything from meaty reviews to smart analysis of tech-related lawsuits to a fun weekly podcast. If this all-star team’s next site is anywhere near this good, it will be a treat.”

“The Verge will be better, bigger and far more comprehensive,” promised SB Nation CEO Jim Bankoff. “Josh, Marty and their team are building what we believe will be the premier consumer technology destination on top of SB Nation's advanced publishing platform. Launching with a major partner such as BMW, the most innovative and sustainable premium automotive company in the World, it is clear that significant advertisers understand the potential of The Verge to appeal to a broad and influential audience.”

“At an engineering company, technology and innovation are integral to everything we do in our efforts to produce the highest-performing and most advanced vehicles on the road,” said Trudy Hardy, Manager, BMW Marketing Communications and Consumer Events, BMW of North America. “We’re excited to partner with Josh and his team on the launch of their highly-anticipated new site.”

"The entire team at This Is My Next — those of us who worked together previously, as well as our new additions to the family — couldn't be more excited to be building this premier brand in technology media. We are literally counting the days until we launch our new site: The Verge," said Joshua Topolsky.
