PROVO, Utah--(BUSINESS WIRE)--What do actors Alyssa Milano and David Arquette, and NBC Dateline’s Chris Hansen have in common? They are all tweeting messages of support for their favorite charities, which are all Regional Finalists in the second annual Vivint Gives Back Project.
Vivint, one of the largest home automation companies in North America, launched its second annual Vivint Gives Back Project on April 26. During the first phase, participants nominated 2,382 charities in North America, and then voted for their favorites. The 100 charities receiving the most votes per region (Pacific, Mountain, Central, Eastern, and Canada) moved on to Phase Two as Regional Finalists.
Milano and Arquette tweeted messages of support for Surfers Healing Fund (http://twitter.com/#!/Alyssa_Milano/status/82831874296258560U, http://twitter.com/#!/davidarquette/status/81952508045557760) and Hansen tweeted for the Kids With Food Allergies Foundation (http://twitter.com/#!/search?q=%23foodallergy).
During Phase Two, fans of Vivint’s Facebook page can vote and make donations to any of the top 100 charities by visiting http://www.vivint.com/givesbackproject. On select days during Phase Two, Vivint will match participants’ donations dollar-for-dollar up to $50 per donor, and $2,500 per charity. Participants can vote for one finalist per day. Voting ends at 11:59 p.m. EDT on August 27, 2011.
At the end of the competition, the non-profit organization receiving the most overall votes will be named the Vivint Gives Back Project’s top charity and will be awarded $250,000. The remaining top charity in each of the five regions garnering the most votes will be awarded $100,000 each. The 2011 Vivint Gives Back Project could generate up to $1.25 million in contributions to non-profit organizations throughout the United States and Canada.
The objectives of the Vivint Gives Back Project include:
- Help increase awareness for the charities through social media.
- Help motivate charities to build their own social media network of supporters that will benefit their cause long after the contest is completed.
- Help Vivint spread out our giving throughout North America where our customers reside.
About Vivint Gives Back
The Vivint Gives Back project was created to focus the efforts of the employees at Vivint on banding together to alleviate hardship and restore hope for people in need. Through this program, Vivint employees have the opportunity to contribute time and resources to service projects ranging from clean-up efforts in the aftermath of the Joplin, Missouri tornado, to providing meals at a Ronald McDonald House and adopting a local elementary school where our employees mentor and tutor students at risk in a long-term relationship.
The 2010 Vivint Gives Back Project awarded $250,000 to the six organizations that received the most votes. Overall, fans nominated 263 non-profits and cast more than 260,000 votes. During the project, employees also participated in 7,500 hours of community service. Security Sales & Integration magazine recognized the project as the “Best Community Outreach Program” with a 2011 SAMMY Award.
