Paul, Weiss Adds Two Prominent Patent Litigators

NEW YORK--()--Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison LLP announced today that Nicholas Groombridge and David J. Ball, Jr., two renowned patent litigators, have joined the firm's Litigation Department. Mr. Groombridge is resident in Paul, Weiss's New York office, and Mr. Ball is resident in its Washington, D.C. office.

Nicholas Groombridge focuses exclusively on intellectual property matters. He has been lead trial counsel in numerous patent infringement actions in federal district courts across the country. Mr. Groombridge has litigated patents in a wide variety of technical areas, with particular focus on pharmaceuticals and biotechnology. He is a frequent speaker on current developments in patent law and currently teaches at both Columbia and New York University law schools. Mr. Groombridge was co-chair of Weil, Gotshal & Manges LLP’s patent litigation practice. He received his law degree from the University of London in 1981 and has practiced in New York since 1989.

David J. Ball, Jr. also focuses exclusively on intellectual property matters, representing clients in patent infringement, trade secret misappropriation, and related tort and contract claims. Mr. Ball is an electrical engineer by training, having received a B.S.E., with honors, from the University of Alabama in 1985 and a M.S. in Engineering from the University of Texas in 1988. He is a 1992 graduate, with honors, of the University of Texas Law School. Mr. Ball clerked for Judge (now Chief Judge) Randall R. Rader of the Federal Circuit.

Messrs. Groombridge and Ball will join the Paul, Weiss Patent Litigation practice, which has successfully handled a wide variety of jury trials, bench trials, federal circuit appeals and U.S. Patent and Trademark Office proceedings. Some of the firm’s notable patent clients include BASF, Edwards Lifesciences, Genentech, NEC, Nichia and Nidec.
