Panerai Sponsors Mike Horn’s PANGAEA Expedition – Next Stop Colorado, USA

Applications Are Now Open to be in PANGAEA’s Next Young Explorer Crew

NEW YORK--()--The application window is now open to become one of the lucky Young Explorers selected to join the internationally-renowned South African explorer Mike Horn during his upcoming “USA Expedition” project, part of his PANGAEA expedition. The goal of the PANGAEA expedition is to cover the seven continents of our globe and all of its various regions (i.e. deserts, oceans, and polar landscapes) without using any man-made power devices. As companions, Mike Horn wants young adventurers to accompany him so he can pass on his passion for discovering our planet. The PANGAEA expedition is therefore governed by the philosophy “More respect for the environment and a sustainable future for our planet.”

This November, three and a half years into his PANGAEA expedition, Mike Horn will come to Colorado, USA along with a group of “Young Explorers” from around the globe selected through the website www.PANGAEA-mikehorn.com. The application window will be open until August 10th, and applicants must speak English, be 15 to 20 years old, motivated, dynamic and enthusiastic, while possessing a specific interest and commitment toward environmental issues.

Sixteen candidates selected through the application process will take part to a training camp in Chateau d’Oex (Switzerland, September 25th to October 10th), where PANGAEA’s headquarters are based, and they will be involved in a series of activities conceived to test their skills and prepare them for the expedition. Eight to ten Young Explorers will then be selected to join Mike during the expedition in Colorado – November 13th – December 4th. During the expeditions, the young explorers will have the opportunity trek the nature reserves of the mighty Colorado River, experience and explore the natural world, learn about the challenges we face and the possible solutions, and most importantly act to change things for the better. These young adults, whilst supported by environmental specialists, will engage in clean-up projects and other assignments that will benefit the inhabitants, the environment, and most importantly, the future of our planet.

Malaysia Expedition Young Explorer Garrett Celestin, who hails from Los Alamitos, CA, says that following his expedition, he feels his role as a PANGAEA ambassador is “to help spread Mike’s words and dreams and the message of PANGAEA. I would like to show and tell people about the beauty of our planet and our need to conserve it. I would also like to help lead the youth of my country in the right direction and to get the US more involved in conservation.”

Participation in this project is completely free of charge for the Young Explorers thanks to the support of the PANGAEA sponsors. Italian high-end watch maker Officine Panerai is a long-term partner of Mike Horn’s achievements and a supplier of the high-end professional instruments that support Mike throughout his adventures: during the PANGAEA expedition Mike is wearing a Panerai Luminor 1950 Submersible Depth Gauge, a submersible watch with automatic winding and a chronometer certificate (C.O.S.C.), fitted with a depth gauge, whose measurement accuracy has been individually tested and certified by the officially qualified body METAS (the Federal Office of Metrology based in Berne, Switzerland).

Past expeditions have included Antarctica, Malaysia, New Zealand, India, Russia, the Himalayas, the South Pole, Mongolia, Kamchatka and the North Pole. Interested candidates should visit the Young Explorers section of the PANGAEA website at www.mikehorn.com to apply.
